News- Changes Announced In The IBA Admission Policy In The Karachi Open House On April 5th,2009

Institute Of Business Administration,Karachi -- Open House on April 5th, 2009:

BBA Admission Policy

* Min 65% in Inter or 2B's and 1C in A-Level (excluding AS General)

MBA Admission Policy

* 16 Years' Bachelors

* 60% or 2.5 CGPA

* 2 Years' work experience

Commiserations to all the guys who have been made ineligible by this. Wish IBA could reduce this work experience requirement. Made a suggestion at the open house today. Let's see if it gets a favorable response. Keep your fingers crossed.

Director was battered by the number of people who raised issue with this requirement. The guy looked tired... I hope this works out for all involved.

In my personal opinion, IBA should give admission to smart students regardless of their work experience, and hire better faculty who take good interviews.

Recently too many people who have gotten in are dropping out like flies because of their inability to maintain the required level of GPA. My question is, when the IBA faculty takes an interview, are they so inept that they can't decide who is worth an admission and who isn't???

If the faculty were to take serious interviews, many idiots who dont deserve an admission to IBA would not get in, and the drop out rate would remain low.

For the last many years, the IBA test makers have relied on vocabulary as a major deciding factor in the test. It has been proven time and again, that any monkey can learn words. How one uses that vocabulary is much more important.

Thankfully, IBA will make students write essays from this year. Regardless of the effect that has on our work, I would love for the BEST minds to get into IBA.

It remains to be seen what the able director can now do to improve his waning faculty, and lift IBA out of the miserable place it has become. Good luck IBA, and good luck to all those who are applying this year. Looks like its going to be a rollercoaster ride :)

And to those who can't apply this year, cheer up - there's always next year :)

Video- Taliban lashed 17 years old girl in Swat on 3rd-April-2009

The video showed the girl face down on the ground. Two men held her arms and feet while a third, a black-turbaned fighter with a flowing beard, whipped her repeatedly, the Guardian reported. The newspaper said it received the video through Samar Minallah, a Pashtun documentary maker.
"Please stop it," the girl begged repeatedly. "Either kill me or stop it now."After 34 lashes the punishment stopped and the wailing girl was led into a stone building. "She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her. There are boundaries you cannot cross," the Guardian quoted Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan as saying.
The punishment was meted out within last 10 days, Minallah said. "This video is being widely circulated because the Taliban want people to see it. They want to give the message that this is taking place after the peace deal because this is something they ideologically believe in," the newspaper quoted her as saying.
The girl's brother is among the men who pinned her down, she added. "It's symbolic that he does it with his own hands. It gives him honour in local society, that he has done it for the sake of religion."
Pakistan's North West Frontier Province government ceded authority to the Taliban under a peace deal, giving them almost a free hand to impose their puritan Islamic rule on the around 600,000 people of Swat and its seven neighbouring districts. The peace accord signed with pro-Taliban cleric Maulana Sufi Mohammad includes measures to establish Islamic courts, a ban on music, expulsion of prostitutes and pimps from the area, closure of businesses during prayer times, and a campaign against what they call obscenity.

I liked it. Although it is not among Plum's belly-laugh-a minute madcap romps, it is good. I reallly liked the more sedate, more realistic characters. Usually the Wodehouse characters are so outlandishly drawn that it is hard to picture them as real people that one can relate to. This book showed me a different side of Wodehouse, and it is a style of writing I would like to read again. Try it!

These sentiments are also evident in The Hunter Cats of Connorloa, a book written for children and in this work, Jackson's respect for people of color extends also to African Americans and Chinese immigrants even though there is some shading of her perspective through the culture of the mid 19th century.
In the book, a sickly bachelor takes charge of his niece and nephew on the death of his sister. Moving them from Italy to California, the book is an intriguing look at life in 19th century California.
Though people of all races are treated with respect, the animals are not, so if you're a PETA supporter, best look elsewhere.
The body count in this children's book is incredibly high and readers learn how to hunt and kill linnet's, how to use cats to keep the gopher and rabbit population down (and that by near starving them), as well as how to poison skunks.
Today, this book would be banned from most school libraries due to its treatment of animals, but it is still an interesting look at life in a time which is rather different from ours.

Joke Of The Day

A Sardar and an American are seated next to each other on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The American asks if he would like to play a fun-game.
The Sardar, tired, just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.
The American persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun.
He says, “I ask you a question, and if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice versa.”
Again, the Sardar declines and tries to get some sleep.
The American, now worked up, says, “Okay, if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5, and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll pay you $500.”
This gets the sardar’s attention and, figuring there will be no end to this! torment, agrees to the game.
The American asks the first question, “What’s the distance from the earth to the moon?”
The Sardar doesn’t say a word, reaches into his wallet, pulls out a $5 bill and hands it to the American.
“Okay,” says the American, “Your turn.”
So the Sardar asks, “What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?”
The American thinks about it. No answer. Puzzled, he takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references. No answer!
He taps into the air-phone with his modem and searches the Internet and the Library of Congress. No answer.Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and co-workers.
Checks the input. All to no avail!
Finally, a long time later, he wakes the Sardar and hands him $500.
The Sardar thanks him and turns back to get his sleep.
The American, more than a little miffed, stirs the Sardar and asks,“Well,what’s the answer?”
Without a word, the Sardar reaches into his purse, hands the American $5, andgoes back to sleep!
